The Cold Planet

Image
Thousands of miles from Earth is the planet of Fliptune. Fliptune gets no sun, and is therefore always cold and dark. It is inhabited by creatures who resemble dinosaurs. These creatures use torches to see. One day, a young Fliptunese called Neila put the wrong batteries in his torch. Suddenly the torch lit up and its bright golden rays travelled through the universe and touched planet Earth. The light hit a boy named Bamby. Even before Bamby could understand what was happening, he got sucked into the light and went higher and higher and landed on Fliptune. Neila watched wild-eyed. He had never seen a human before. Bamby was equally surprised. “It’s so cold and dark here,” said Bamby. “We don’t get the sun,” lamented Neila “I can get the sun for you,” replied Bamby. He lit the torch once again and helped Bamby return to Earth. Bamby took out a huge mirror and reflected the sun’s rays towards Fliptune. Now Fliptune was never dark and cold again.

Sunny Day’s Favourite Sounds

Image
Sunny Day admired the sound of a brook as he flowed over the pebbles. “You make such a wonderful sound, Babbling Brook,” he said. “Thank you, Sunny Day,” replied Babbling Brook continuing on his way. Sunny Day heard a bee buzzing as it collected honey. How do you make that sound?” he asked. “I have to flex my muscles and rub my wings to keep my body warm while I work,” replied the bee. “That’s what makes that buzzing sound.” Sunny Day heard Mocking Bird singing a song. “That’s a lovely sound,” he said. “How do you do it?” “I don’t know,” replied Mocking Bird. “When I have a happy thought I open my mouth and sing.” Sunny Day heard children laughing. “I love that sound,” he said to one little boy. “How do you do it?” “When I find something funny I laugh. It feels good,” replied the little boy. Sunny Day thought how lucky he was to hear so many wonderful sounds.

Rodney Rhino's weekend Plans

Image
Rodney Rhino was looking forward to the weekend. He could do what he loved best—play with his friends. Rodney called up Sammy Snake. “Let’s take our bikes and go for a ride,” he said. “SSSorry, Rodney. I have got football practice today, a game tomorrow, and on SSSSunday I have to go for a birthday party,” said Sammy. Disappointed, Rodney called up Gilbert Gator. “Let’s build something with my blocks,” he said.  But Gilbert Gator was busy too. His father was taking him fishing. Rodney was fed up. He went outside and lay down on the grass staring grumpily at the clouds. Everyone had something to do. He heard a voice calling to him and looked up to see his mother. His friend Louis Lion had called. He wanted to play football with him the next day. “It’s going to be a good weekend after all,” smiled Rodney.

A Silly Science Experiment

Image
Some scientists decided to do the following experiments on a dog. For the first experiment, they cut one of the dog's legs off, then they told the dog to walk. The dog got up and walked, so they they learned that a dog could walk with just three legs. For the second experiment, they cut off a second leg from the dog, then they told the dog once more to walk. The dog was still able to walk with only two legs. For the third experiment, they cut off yet another leg from the dog and once more they told the dog to walk. However, the dog wasn't able to walk with only one leg. As a result of these three experiments, the scientists wrote in their final report that the dog had lost it's hearing after having three legs cut off.

The Free Fridge

Image
Raymond purchased a new fridge. The local council wanted $20 to remove his old fridge in an environmentally friendly fashion. So in order to save money he put it in his front garden with a sign that read, “Free to a good home. You want it, please take it.” The fridge stood untouched for 4 days! Raymond changed his tactics. He made a sign saying, 'Fridge for sale $50.' One day later the fridge disappeared and stolen.

Special Olympics story

Image
A few years ago at the Seattle Special Olympics, nine contestants, all physically or mentally disabled, assembled at the starting line for the 100-yard dash. At the gun, they all started out, not exactly in a dash, but with a relish to run the race to the finish and win. All that is, except one boy who stumbled on the asphalt, tumbled over a couple of times and began to cry. The other eight heard the boy. They slowed down and looked back. They all turned around and went back. Every one of them. One girl with Down’s syndrome bent down and kissed him and said,” This will make it better.” All nine linked arms and walked across the finish line together. Everyone in the stadium stood, and the cheering went on for several minutes. People who were there are still telling the story. ‘Why?’ ‘Because deep down we know one thing. What matters most in this life is more than winning for ourselves. What truly matters in this life is helping others win, even if it means slowing down and changi

Twins’ week

Image
Kim and Ken are twins and they live at the zoo. Their father is the zookeeper. He has so many things to do. On Mondays they take a shower, the hippos join the fun. Then watch TV with the fish, the week has just begun. On Tuesdays they eat breakfast with the pandas and the frogs. And eat dinner in the evening with chimps and cats and dogs. On Wednesdays they clean their teeth, the crocodile helps them brush. Then at night they ride their bikes, the rhino gives a push. On Thursdays they play football, with parrots in the park. Then take a swim in the pool, the one without the shark! On Fridays they do their homework, the octopus helps too. Then play some games with their friends and run around the zoo. On Saturdays they go shopping, with the kangaroos. Then come home on a big, red bus and have a little snooze. On Sundays they are very tired and sleep until it’s lunch. Then take a walk around the zoo and see the friendly bunch.
